Draw Peanuts

This week is nuts! We are going through some sketches of all kinds of nuts beginning with the famous peanut.

Most of the works is done in soft layering with the harder pencil ranging from 2H-6H. Only for the very darkest areas a HB can be used.

Drawing Walnuts

Walnuts are not that easy to draw as the shapes are unusual and unfamiliar. After having established the basic outlines, begin with the larger shapes within the form. and then go to the smaller ones. This will make it easier to make out the shapes and untangles your left side of the brain, that usually runs havoc when it sees something complicated, even when it is not. The more relaxed you are the quicker you switch to the right side of the brain, which is the side that actually can draw.

Draw Almonds

Today we drawing almonds, one of my favourite nuts.

For more interest take some of the soft skin off or even draw the hard out shell of the nut.

Draw Nuts

Today you can chose any nuts you want.

Here you have an example of some cashew and hazelnuts. These are really good exercises for creating different textures.

Last Day Drawing Nuts

Today is the last day we will be drawing nuts.

You should have by now a nice sketchbook filled with different types of nuts. It will look good if write some information next to the drawings about the nuts themselves or what challenges you faced and how you corrected those. If you go to a art classes, ask your teacher how you can improve and write the suggestions next to the drawing.

Draw a Leaf

The idea about drawing these leaves is to use the hardest of all pencils to create a soft feel.

You have to apply gentle layers of pencils strokes without going too fast forward. Stay a while on the spot until you see the softness appearing rather than single strokes. If you are heavy handed, hold the pencil further away from the lead towards the end as this will apply less pressure.

Draw a Camera

Today we are drawing a simple camera by first creating all details and then going on top of it with some loose, yet ordered cross hatching on top to create a bit of a difference.

Cross-hatching looks quickly messy if applied with strokes that are not straight and also neatly parallel.

So test it out first on a piece of scrap paper trying to achieve nice parallel lines, but do it fast, so that it looks dynamic rather than tried.

Draw a Crocodile

Draw a crocodile in the same style as yesterday's daily drawing.

Draw a Running Shoe

Draw the outlines of a running shoe. To draw the pattern on the shoe use either an old piece of fly-screen or some other type of material that leaves a interesting pattern. Place the material underneath the drawing paper and use a darker pencil to trace the patter onto the paper by letting the pattern to appear through pressure. In the lighter sections just use a light pencil and do some hatching.

Draw a Soccer Ball

A simple drawing task today is drawing a soccer ball.  After having drawn the circle check the mid line from which the two darker field are going off, as you can easily check that this line lies just underneath half way through the circle. Use the 2H pencil for the soft background colour and add hatching lines with a HB or darker on top.

Draw a Sliced Apple

Continuing in the style of the last days, we are drawing an apple today. Draw the outlines lightly, then add an over mid tones over most parts of the apple and then add cross hatching over the final drawing. This technique is really fun.

Draw a Button

Subject matter to draw is all around us. Today you can draw a button or several of them. You can add interest by placing a piece of lace with it.

Draw Young Fern

The fern plant is most beautiful in its birthing stages when it curls its way up into the light.

Use mostly the lighter pencil grades for this exercise and the B pencils only sparingly.

Draw More Fern

We continue today with fern in its next stage when it is still curled but the leaves begin to spread out.

This is a good lesson for learning to create round objects and cylindrical forms.

Surrealistic Drawing

Today we are drawing two items that usually don't belong together to create a surrealistic drawing.

It is a brilliant way to play with idea for surrealistic or fantasy works by adding two unrelated objects and combine them into one. You later can increase the object you try to incorporate into your work.

Draw a Chopper

Most have this little kitchen utensil at home for slicing or chopping vegetables.

It is a plain object that is perfect for a daily drawing.

Draw Bed Linen

This is roughly how my bed looks like every morning. A great subject to draw, as the combinations for a good composition is endless.

Draw a Wooden Box

You can use any storage container to draw today's daily drawing. Find something that has an interesting texture.

 Draw a Castle

Observe how the outlines for the castle have line contour variations, meaning they are all different in thickness and pressure. Never just draw a line straight through with the same pressure, as it will appear to be stiff.

Also note that the details are drawn with a few simple lines and the background is done with cross-hatching.
Draw a Castle Picture

Draw a Rest Area

This rest area is drawn from within the car which created some interesting line work in regards to composition.

Use mostly hatching / cross hatching.
Draw Rest Area Picture

Draw a Church

Churches are always good subjects, regardless of having one, two or no towers. Add a few simple tree structures and some effective grass for a greater effect.
Draw a Church Picture

Draw a single Shoe

First chose an interesting perspective for the object. Draw the shoe in detail.

Use mostly the lighter H pencils for details and only sparingly the darker B's.
Draw another Shoe Picture

Draw Milk Container

Today we are drawing the simple shape of a milk container.
Draw Milk Container Picture

Draw a Plastic Bottle

When trying to create a quick sketch or reference of an object it is important to find the most vital information of an object to express the essence of that object. Often very few but vital strokes can explain the form and shape of an image. It is for this reason that is it helpful to draw simple objects frequently.

Draw an Apple or a Pear

We are off to a fruity start today. It is a good idea to begin with outlining the shapes by trying to see the straightness in each curve and checking the angles clearly. For example the apple is not just round, we can see a rather straighter longer line on the bottom. To get the fine texture as seen in the apple you need to do a bit of cross-hatching by creating one layer of straight lines and the next almost at the same angle, just slightly different, as this creates a for of bubbles as seen on the apple.
Draw Apple Pear Picture

Draw a Lemon

If life gives you lemons, make some kind of fruity juice. We all know the saying. So no complaining about the subject matter, make something of it.

Learn to make something good from any subject matter.
Draw a Lemon Picture

Draw More Fruit

We finish the month of May by drawing an apple or pear once more, but this time cut.

We will be using cross-hatching to achieve the result we want. When creating a layer of hatching, make sure that the lines are nicely set parallel to one another as it otherwise looks very quickly messy. Then do another layer of lines evenly place next to each other.
